MSC mega container ship troubled in the Pacific Apr 7 UPDATE

Apr 7 UPDATE: The ship changed port of destination, now it’s Wakayama Japan. MSC ARIANA on tow of SHIN CHOU MARU meanwhile, lopp back and forth off southern Honshu in the Pacific, though ETA Wakayama is Apr 8.

It was reported on Apr 7, that MSC ARIANA suffered engine failure, she’s to be taken to port for repairs. Engine failure according to MSC, was caused by poor quality fuel. 

 
Apr 5 UPDATE: Approached by offshore tug SHIN CHOU MARU (IMO 9272840, Japan) on Apr 5, looks like towage has already commenced as of 0700 UTC Apr 5. 

 Apr 3 Alert: MSC ARIANE, IMO 9484443, dwt 154503, Pacific south of Kobe-Osaka, NUC or sailing towards Japan at slow speed since morning Apr 2, from Xiamen to Los Angeles, ETA Apr 14.
