Tanker attacked, attack thwarted by guards, Gulf of Guinea

Tanker was reportedly, approached by pirates at around 1300 UTC Dec 2 in Gulf of Guinea southwest of South Bayelsa State coast, Nigeria.
Attack was thwarted
by armed guards on board, tanker and crew are reportedly, safe. According to tracks and time
logs of the ships in the area, most probably, tanker LEVANTO was attacked. She’s en route from
Okrika, Port Harcourt, Nigeria, to Lagos. As of 1550 UTC Dec 2, she was
continuing her voyage, sailing in northwestern direction.

Cargo ship was boarded by armed pirates at around 0300 UTC Nov 30 in Conakry Anchorage waters, Guinea, West Africa.
According to ships tracks and time/position of the attack, attacked ship most probably, is a Turkish general cargo ship TANGO REY. The ship docked at Conakry port on Nov 25, on Nov 26 she moved to Conakry anchorage and anchored in position where attack took place.
She left anchorage
and moved to port in about 4 hours after attack time, berthed. As of morning
Dec 1, she remained berthed. Ship’s ID is not yet confirmed, no other details of
the attack available, as of 0320 UTC Dec 1. Awaiting ship’s ID confirmation, updates.
UPDATE: Confirmed TANGO REY
was attacked, 6 armed pirates boarded the ship and looted superstructure,
living quarters, taking with them all personal and ship’s valuables they were able to find. 14 crew are safe.

Product tanker AGISILAOS was attacked and boarded by pirates in the evening Nov 29 in Gulf of Guinea south of Lome, Togo, while en route from Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, to Lome.
Pirates kidnapped 4
crew, including Filipino, Romanian and Russian nationalities, and fled. Tanker
reached Lome anchorage and was anchored at around 0330 UTC Nov 30. The rest of
the crew are safe.

General cargo ship attacked, Gulf of Guinea UPDATE 10 crew kidnapped

1600 UTC UPDATE: 10 crew reported kidnapped.
Cargo ship was attacked at around 1300 UTC Nov 26 in Nigerian waters, Gulf of Guinea, some 10 nm off Bayelsa State coast.
Understood it’s general cargo ship MILAN, en route from Koko Nigeria to Douala Cameroon, ETA Nov 27. The ship stopped and started to drift at night Nov 25, reason unknown. She drifted to a position where she was attacked and understood, boarded.
AIS signal was
missing from 1204 UTC Nov 26 until 1410 UTC Nov 26, when signal reappeared, the
ship was still adrift. No other information available, as of 1440 UTC Nov 26.
The ship is trading in Gulf of Guinea waters since early October this year.

Three vessels hijacked in the Gulf of Guinea within seven days

Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea continues to skyrocket, with as many as three hijackings taking place in the Gulf within just seven days.
The latest in the long list of hijackings in the Togo-flagged bunkering vessel Stelios K As per reports, the ship was boarded and hijacked while it was en route to Lagos.
We analyzed the situation using FleetMon's Historical Track feature. The latest position received 4 days ago showcases its location in the Gulf of Guinea Central.
AIS tracking shows that the vessel took two sharp turns off of its course and slowed from 6.7 kn to 0.4 kn meaning it was eventually stopped before the AIS signal was turned off.
As confirmed by the Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade – Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG), attackers are still onboard. This could only mean one thing, that the perpetrators potentially sought options for either offloading or selling refined products that may be on board.
The Gulf of Guinea saw a sharp increase in incidents last week, including two successful kidnappings within three days. They include pirates kidnapping five crew from the Ghanaian-flagged general cargo vessel AM Delta off South Brass, and 14 crew from the Liberian-flagged Heavy Load carrier Zhen Hua 7 off Sao Tome.
The potential for high profits—along with high unemployment along the coast, weak security and a lack of judicial enforcement of maritime laws in many West African countries—makes the Gulf of Guinea especially attractive for pirates and other criminals.
Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea continues to be a concern to the shipping industry, which is affected significantly. All the same, the regional governments agree to the fact that the fight against piracy requires a detailed knowledge of maritime security and laws in and around the Gulf of Guinea.
